In the near future. Ina and Claude, a couple of diver-technicians, descend 200 meters underwater to join the crew of a submerged station on a last-chance mission to contain a catastrophic oil spill. While working in isolation, cut off from the world and under extreme conditions, the onboard doctor becomes infected by a parasitic worm—highly contagious—that strips its hosts of all inhibitions, surrendering them to their most extreme urges, while it feeds on their endorphins like an emotional vampire.
First, take the queasy feeling of imagining yourself in the place of one of those ants being eaten alive by a parasitic fungus. The pathogen hijacks your nervous system and turns you into a helpless puppet, willingly running toward suicide. Then add the existential dread of a forty-something who realises he’s done nothing with his life—and will probably do nothing with the rest of it. Mix those two fears and you get Prudence, a perfect elixir of terror…
